Here At Eldwick Methodist Church Wwe support a Child in Zimbabwe through Plan Zimbabwe. Here is the last update that we got from her community Volunteer.

Mavis's mother Beauty told us that Mavis enjoys netball, and is now able to help her family to fetch firewood for the house

Mavis has been healthy over the last year

Mavis is still attending primary school and her performance is good now. This year her favourite lessons have been mathematics and natural science. She still travels by foot and it takes her approximately 45 minutes to get there.

Mavis's family are still using an open field or public area for their toilrt facilities. There is enough water during both rainy and dry seasons. It comes from a borehole with a hand pump. The water is safe to drink at all times. The nearest health facility is the health centre which is about forty five minutes away.

Chiredzi Programme area is located in the south-eastern part of the Masvingo province, some 500km from the country's capital of Harare. Community members in this area face many challenges such asa factors as poop agro-ecological conditions, and lack of financial and other resources. To help address these challenges, Plan has supported the communities with a project involving the provision of crop seed and agricultural training for over 6000 households. Further, a community based growth monitoring program has been established for the growth monitoring of under fives in most parts of the program area.

The projects undertaken to benefit Mavis's community include:

Th eprovision of tools for practical subjects to Hlezane Secoundary school to provide hands on skills for children's learning in building. This has improved girls participation in the subject that was predominantly for boys.

In an effort to improve the learning enviroment for children 2 X 2 classroom blocks have been constructed at Mwenezi Government and Hlezane Secoundry Schools. This has reduced hot sitting and it is hoped that children's performance will improve.

In a bid to improve cattle dipping facilities for livestock owners. Plan embarked upon the rehabilitation of two diptanks in the area of Chitanga and Neshuro. This project saw the erection of spray races and roofing of the dipping structures. These structures are as well used for learning purposes by farmers to improve their animal husbandry skills, conducted by Arex and Veterinary who are technical experts from goverment. With this project many farmers are now able to access dipping facilities for their animals.

We hope you have enjoyed reading this report. we will continue to work with the community to improve the life of Mavis and all the other children in the area, for them to be able to realize their potential
